How to earn Voice in #chris.

Postby Brigitte » Wed Aug 10, 2011 7:53 pm

Hello, everyone! If you’re reading this you have likely followed a link in the chat after wondering why some users have voice (+ symbol) and how you can earn it too. Voice is used in #chris to imply that a user is known to the channel and trusted to act responsibly. Voiced users are the example of how the chat room should be; following the rules, helping other users and maintaining a friendly community.

At times the channel will become moderated (+m). First, the moderators deal with any channel issues, then either un-moderate the channel, or keep the +m on for a while, allowing only those with voice to chat. When you first join #chris, you will not have voice, so here are a few guidelines to help you earn it.

  • Respect the rules of the channel: *Please be courteous, you cannot be abusive to others, talk in caps, discuss anything illegal or defamatory, or start a "fight". You must speak English, and not use any explicit or offensive language. Links to personal sites are not allowed (myspace/facebook/youtube) and are considered to be spam. Keep in mind that a Moderator has the last word, and please do not argue with their judgement.*

  • We look for kind people who interact with, help and are respectful to other users. You don't have to be a tech genius to get voice, but you can easily learn the common question/answer sets. Maybe you have seen the question 50 times before, but a new user hasn’t, so answer without belittling them.

  • Must be a registered user in #chris for a minimum of 30 days.

  • Zero silences, kicks or bans (some kicks may have been accidental; will be determined case-by-case).

  • Do not mini-mod. If ops are not talking it doesn’t mean they are not watching. If none seem to be around, you can issue some gentle warnings once you get voice. Until you are more familiar with the chat, i.e. have voice, please leave the warnings to others.

  • Don’t ask for voice. Any moderator can nominate a new voiced user so whenever you are on, at least one of them will surely be keeping an eye on the chat, looking for potential users to voice. You will be given it when it has been earned.

  • When you have been given voice do not forget to read and agree to the post "Rules for voiced users."
Posting there BEFORE getting voiced, is useless and your reply will be deleted.

Good luck!!
