#Chris Volunteer Positions

Postby Brigitte » Thu Jul 19, 2012 8:24 am

Being a volunteer for #Chris is a rewarding experience, but it doesn’t come without responsibilities and difficulties. Being a moderator is not a glamorous position and doesn’t give you the right to kick or ban anyone you want or bend the rules because of your position. It takes a great deal of hard work, dedication, and most of all patience to be a #Chris Volunteer. You’ll spend a large proportion of your time answering the same questions over and over, mediating disputes, providing basic tech support to members and teaching users IRC commands.

While chatting yourself is a part of being in the chat room, we simply ask that you take care of any problems that you see before having fun. Moderating has to take priority over chatting to friends. We expect you to lead by example and show other chatters how to behave, not only though enforcement of the rules, but also by being the model citizen. Don’t feel you have to catch every infraction - other mods are watching too.

Be at least 18 years old
Have been an -active- and -helpful- VOP (voiced user) in #Chris for at least 6 months
Able to lead by example and demonstrate how to chat within the rules
Know that disrespecting users is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated
Will not disclose confidential information
Be diplomatic, a team player and problem solver
Be willing to follow direction from supervisors (GeekShed Staff, Chris Pirillo, #chris Admins and Ops)
Be willing to expand your knowledge and have a mind open to learning
Be able to read, write, and speak the English language accurately.
Have a personal interest and enough time to voluntarily moderate #Chris and the #Chris forum
Understand that volunteering in #Chris is a privilege, not a right. Access may be revoked at any time.

To apply, post the following in the volunteer sub-forum:

Your registered nick(s) as the topic subject
Include your full name, age and location (City, State or Province, and Country)
Contact details - a valid email, a day and night-time phone number, an IM client if you use one
A paragraph explaining why you think you’ll make a good volunteer in #Chris
Please carefully review all the minimum requirements above and include: “I meet and agree to all the minimum volunteer requirements. I certify that the statements herein are true, complete and accurate to the best of my knowledge.”

Applicants that are accepted as a volunteer will be required to read and agree to some policies and standards and receive some basic instruction. The management constantly evaluates the performance of all the volunteers and may provide feedback, additional coaching or additional instruction. Volunteers are expected to listen to and apply this feedback, coaching, or instruction to their volunteer duties. If you are ever unsure how to do something, simply ask; there is usually another op around that will be willing to help.

Please note: Meeting these minimum requirements does not guarantee a Volunteer Position. We also review your past behavior on GeekShed, your past interactions with other #Chris Volunteers and the GeekShed Staff. All new volunteers are subject to a thirty-day probationary period. During and after the probationary period, Volunteers may be released at anytime without notice, however we will do our best to always give an explanation as to why we took that decision.

Please post your application on the topic "#Chris Volunteer Applications"!!!

Your application will not appear in the public forum. You will see it, as will we, but not other users. We aim to respond quickly to applicants, but don’t expect it to happen overnight. We need to know you are keen on the position so we can take a while to watch you in the chat and ensure we are making the right choice in bringing you on board. Please do not ask any of the #Chris staff about the status of your application *unless* you haven’t heard anything after 30 days. In that case please contact one of the admins: CCMike, Brigitte, CornishNerd or locust.
