Pctech37's "List"

Postby Pctech37 » Wed Nov 25, 2009 1:13 am

Dear GeekShed,

I am Pctech37. I would like to comment and make some suggestions. Let me start with, you guys are awesome. You really have a network with potential. Now, for my to-do list for suggestions:

*Open community Ventrilo/Teamspeak/mumble (I know they have a private one)
*Involvment in LAN parties (ups user count)
*private AS network (those of you in #theshed, well, yeah) with a low-latency transatlantic line (or even just a wavelength)
*logos and ads for those who want to advertise GS on their site
*A GeekShed logo on forums instead of the phpBB one.

I will think of more and more later. ni ni

A VoIP server would be cool, but would be hard to talk since so many people would be talking, and it would be another thing for them to moderate. I would like to see a GeekShed logo instead of the phpBB one. LAN party as in an actual party, or just over the internet games? Actually party would be cool, but expensive to have though, and probably difficult to get people to go to it. Like a banner or button for a web site to advertise GeekShed would be cool, no idea what a AS network is.

Another is is that on the forums they could put admins under "GeekShed.net Admins" not "Admin"

I think that the idea of having a voice server, such as Teamspeak, would be a great idea.

The idea of LAN parties would just hit session limits on the IP. I suppose if you wanted to have a chat for a LAN party you could just run an IRCd on one of the computers. Some useful links for that are:

You might be able to get an exception if you have a LAN party.

Ok, I don't see how I was supposed to know you run an IRCd. I left the links there not just for you but people who may read this as an archive and not know how.

*Open community Ventrilo/Teamspeak/mumble (I know they have a private one)

We already have a teamspeak 3 server - ts.geekshed.net port 9999

*Involvment in LAN parties (ups user count)

I think the concept of a LAN party kinda limits the use of IRC as everyone is in close proximity, however session limit exceptions can be added if necessary.

*private AS network (those of you in #theshed, well, yeah) with a low-latency transatlantic line (or even just a wavelength)

IRC depends very little on latency. The difference between 1ms and 2s latency makes little visible difference.

*logos and ads for those who want to advertise GS on their site

Noted - we'll get on it

*A GeekShed logo on forums instead of the phpBB one.

Noted - we'll get on it
